Our Series A: Welcoming New Partners in Our Mission to Build Scientific Superintelligence

Today I’m thrilled to share a milestone for Lila Sciences: a $235M Series A, co-led by Braidwell and Collective Global.
We’re deeply grateful for the conviction and support of our investors, including Altitude Life Science Ventures, Alumni Ventures, ARK Venture Fund, Common Metal, Flagship Pioneering, General Catalyst, March Capital, the Mathers Foundation, Modi Ventures, NGS Super, the State of Michigan Retirement System, and a wholly owned subsidiary of Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA). Thank you for believing in us and joining this mission.
We intentionally assembled a group of long-term partners—leading AI and science investors alongside mission-driven backers. That mix gives us both deep domain expertise and strong values alignment as we scale.
Our Mission
From the beginning at Flagship, we set out to build scientific superintelligence to solve humankind’s greatest challenges—grounded in the conviction that AI can run every step of the scientific method. With each passing day, this vision feels more imminent.
The scientific method is the most valuable wheel humankind has ever invented. When it turns faster, civilization leaps forward. Energy. Computing. Materials. Medicine. Diagnostics. Agriculture. The frontiers that matter most are powered by this wheel.
As we enter the intelligence revolution, the teams who can turn that wheel with the highest intelligence, at the largest scale, and at the greatest speed will deliver the most transformative advances.
Lila was founded on the insight that a unified AI, software, and robotics platform could autonomously drive this wheel across an extraordinary diversity of fields. That’s why we’re building an end-to-end platform—so AI agents can conduct every step of the scientific method and bring scientific superintelligence to life.
Since emerging from stealth in March, we’ve accelerated progress toward an operating system for autonomous science across materials, chemistry, and life science. With this growth capital, we will take Lila’s platform to the next level of intelligence, scale, and speed—and move closer to enabling breakthroughs that might otherwise have taken decades.
AI Science Factories: A New Body for a Superintelligent Scientific Mind
Building a beautiful, superintelligent mind for science requires a new kind of body for science.
Lila’s AI Science Factories are that body—unified facilities where AI, novel software, and custom hardware close the loop between reasoning and real-world verification. Think of them as scientific-method machines. Using large-scale reinforcement learning across both simulations and laboratory experiments, our models generate hypotheses, design experiments, run them, learn from the results, and iterate—thousands of times over. The result is a large-scale verifier for scientific reasoning, not just a predictor.
Already, Lila’s systems have driven thousands of discoveries across life science, chemistry, and materials—offering early glimpses of the scientific superintelligence era to come.
With our first AI Science Factory, we have been able to close the loop across hundreds of thousands of AI-driven experiments. As we enter our Series A, these facilities will be the engines of our progress—allowing us to train models with higher levels of scientific intelligence than internet-scale data alone can achieve.
What Becomes Possible When AI Turns the Wheel of Science
A unified platform for autonomous science enables a single scientific mind to run thousands of parallel experiments across fields that are typically siloed.
- Medicines and diagnostics. We’re building agents that design and validate novel protein therapeutics, nucleic acids, chemistries, and diagnostic modalities. We’ve seen agents complete in minutes or hours workflows that traditionally take human teams days to weeks—opening new paths against cancer, obesity, immune diseases, and beyond.
- Materials and manufacturing. Our agents and AI Science Factory technology rapidly explore and validate breakthrough materials—from ultra-stable metals to new catalysts and engineered thin films—accelerating clean-energy technologies and next-generation manufacturing.
- Computing and energy. By unifying scientific reasoning with real-world verification, we can help unlock the next generation of compute and the materials that power it, while advancing sustainable energy systems at the pace the world now requires.
Our Next Phase
We’re expanding our team and opening new hubs in Boston, San Francisco, and London. These facilities will house and scale our teams and AI Science Factories across distinct scientific domains—controlled environments where AI can conduct experiments at scale.
If the idea of building scientific superintelligence excites you, come build with us. We’re seeking extraordinary, driven people across AI research, software, robotics, biology, chemistry, materials science, and operations.
At Lila, we believe science is the most inspiring frontier for AI. This financing comes from partners who share that belief—and it’s a commitment from us to turn it into reality. Our goal is simple: increase the intelligence, scale, and speed of science so humankind can experience life-changing benefits derived from artificial intelligence.
Thank you to our new partners and—most of all—our team. The future of science is here. Let’s turn the wheel.
With gratitude,
Geoff von Maltzahn, Co-founder and CEO
